The summit gathered European heads of state and government, the President of the European Commission, Ms Ursula von der Leyen, and a delegation of more than 100 business leaders and industrial players. This summit was the largest ever energy coalition for the North Sea and the summit marked a new chapter in the energy transition.

The first time this summit was held, in May 2022 in Denmark, the four founding countries Belgium, Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands made a joint declaration to quadruple their combined offshore power generation capacity to 150 GW by 2050. This equals the annual electricity consumption of 150 million European households. This year, the founding countries were joined by France, the UK, Ireland, Norway and Luxemburg. This extension strengthens the coalition and increases the offshore wind target in the North Sea to a minimum of 300 GW by 2050.

Our countries will collectively have the power to harness the full energy and industrial potential of the North Sea and make it Europe’s largest powerhouse by 2050.
