Electric wireless charging roads are latest cutting edge green technology

Green revolution in progress: The world’s first wireless electric road, charging  electric trucks and a buses on a public road. Road freight accounts for nearly 1/5 of the annual global oil demand. A great solution to achieve the goal of fossil-free transport is to rebuild the infrastructure into electric roads.

The system that is set to revolutionize transportation and accelerate the switch to electric mobility uses copper coils fitted under the asphalt, enabling EVs to charge their batteries wirelessly while on the move

Sweden’s Smart-road Gotland is a demonstration of a 1.6 km long electric road situated between the airport and town center of Visby on the idyllic island of Gotland, an eco-municipality in the middle of the Baltic Sea.

Long haul heavy truck fleets benefit significantly from the Electreon solution since no heavy and costly batteries, nor stops for charging, are needed.

The project is financed by the the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) as part of the electric road roadmap of the Swedish government to reduce CO2 emissions from heavy transportation.

According to ElectReon AB: A unique DWPT system (Dynamic Wireless Power Transfer)

Road infrastructure – placed under the road at the center of the traffic lane. A receiver – located under the vehicle chassis. Communication system- provides real-time communication with each vehicle. Power station- An underground system that transmits the energy to the road’s infrastructure

The Electric Road implementation process: Placing unique copper coils along a kilometer of a road can be constructed in one night without interrupting daily life. After deploying our coils, the road is covered with asphalt, and ready to go.

“Charging a long-haul truck while driving on an electric road that is open to the public is an exceptional technological achievement coming after years of intense development. The achievement brings us closer to our goal of revolutionizing the field of electric vehicle charging and we thank the strong support from Trafikverket that enabled this to take place in Sweden,” said Oren Ezer, CEO of ElectReon Wireless.

Following the successful tests, the company expects to start operation of the entire road once all the approvals from relevant authorities are granted.

Copper is the most important industrial metal in the world used in a variety of applications in electrical wires. This noble metal has become essential to our everyday life by helping power countless devices a building block for thousand’s products around the world. Copper is a highly conductive metal electricity can pass through it with greater ease, making it ideal for use in electrical wires.

The demand for copper is growing at greater rates in the history of humankind. According to Albanian Minerals  new reports in 2022  show that the global need for copper to rise by as much as 100 percent over the next decade. Green energy revolution has started, copper is one of the most important metal of this trillion USD industry.

Albanian Minerals CEO Sahit Muja said, An green energy and mobility revolution based on renewables and energy efficiency is urgently needed globally. The energy sector today, dominated by fossil fuels, accounts for over 70% cent of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. Global CO2e emissions must be reduced 50% by 2030 to avoid an increasing frequency and severity of dangerous and unprecedented weather extremes, including heatwaves, devastating floods and droughts, risks to food and water security, population displacement, and loss of lives and livelihoods”.

“The  global need for a major change in green mobility to progress towards a more sustainable model,  using less polluting and more efficient transport it is necessary. Ne progres in greener technology is the essential ally to be able to achieve this. Innovative solutions that facilitate mobility as a service, improve safety and optimize infrastructure capacity and maintenance are already beginning to reach the sector, making the busses, trains and trucks much more better”. Sahit Muja said.
